It's getting below 40 degrees F at night, which means it's below 60 in the house, which is a good temperature for sleeping but very difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning, no matter how urgently the dogs plead their bladders. So I've turned on the furnace. I got a programmable thermostat so it will bring the house up to 63 for an hour. Now the challenge is not to crawl back into bed with coffee (and stay there) after the dogs have been out and had breakfast.

I feel for you: the temptation of going back to bed after tending to the beasts is so great. I find I can do the start the teasmade, switch on the fish tank lights, measure out the cat kibble, run out to the hen house routine almost without waking up enough it's not worth going back to bed. Does rather depend on when: 5.30 a.m. I'm on autopilot for sure; 7.00 a.m. it's nearly time to be up for real.

Being cozy when it's cold is so tempting.
