Mountain lion killed by runner

The mountain lion was a juvenile. The runner got mauled, but managed to suffocate the lion with his bare hands.

I saw that in the news! I am very impressed. Does he get to keep the pelt? I would totally wear the pelt if I strangled a lion with my bare hands, because that's how it's done.

The rangers found the dead mountain lion where the runner told them to look, but they could only estimate its weight because it had already been partially eaten.

The park is still temporarily closed.

At this distance I agree.

If I were the person who strangled a predator to death with my bare hands after being attacked I suspect that I would not want it as much. Not because I would not want the trophy, but because the work needed to get it and display it would be more than I'd want to deal with. "Damn it, I survived this, that's enough. I will write it down in my diary and try to get on The Moth main stage."

WOW.
The largest predator we see around here (excluding humans...) would be urban foxes, and they are more about foraging than predating these days.

How upsetting for everyone involved. D: I hope the attack wasn't because the mountain lion was starving--my friend that lives on a lighthouse has stories of that happening and it's so sad.

I think the mountain lion population in Colorado is doing well, and there are many many deer for them eat around Fort Collins. I think this one was just young and foolish.

Being a wild animal is hard! There is so much to learn and you only learn things the hard way.
