aggghhh progesterone is vile how do people make themselves endure it when they don't have to


no it is not the progesterone it is the fluctuation in progesterone level that is making me puke every time i lean over or turn my head i remember now

do doctors still recommend that you take a week off hormonal birth control every month that is just cruel

I don't know if it's a special formulation, but there's at least one form of BC that you can stop only four times/year....

It's a different formulation. I'm on Amethia, which is one of the extended cycle ones. Basically you're on a 90 day cycle instead of 30ish days. The last row of pills does contain some estrogen (instead of estrogen and progestin), dunno if that helps with your progesterone fluctuation problem. Extended cycle seems to at least somewhat address my premenstrual anxiety issues, which is what I needed.

All this being said, you *can* just skip the placebo row in a regular pack of BC; my GP recommended that for a couple months while trying to figure out some annoying technical difficulties. I've also heard of docs being fine with one doing it just to skip a period when it would be inconvenient; not sure how recommended it is to do that on a regular basis. But as [personal profile] jinian says there's literature that indicates it's pretty pointless to have all these periods, medically speaking...
