DEAR day

It's snowing. Book group tomorrow. I'm having a Drop Everything And Read day. My kids' school used to do this occasionally: classes cancelled, we're just going to read all day. Bring a book (Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver for me today) and your favorite stuffed animal, pillow, or blankie. Pajamas encouraged.

It's not snowing here, but that sounds fantastic! Since it's after 2pm and I still haven't changed out of my nightie, I think I'll embrace the concept too. :)

Frankly, I think every week should have a DEAR day — what a lovely idea! Time for me to slide away from the keyboard and go finish The Golem & the Jinni.

I love this! I will join you, not physically but in spirit and action. I'm finishing Cordelia's Honor (LM Bujold) for book club -- my third time, so it's a happy-wallow reread. :-)

Have you started Flight Behavior yet? How do you like it?

I love it! I am really impressed by how thoroughly Kingsolver violates our American taboo against talking about class. I can't judge the accuracy of her portrayal of working-class people dealing with environmental problems, but it seemed well-rounded and realistic.
