sovay gave me three things to talk about:

Ferns: I know fern-seed can make you invisible because it is itself invisible. I also know that ferns don't have seeds, they reproduce through spores. Most ferns need much more consistent moisture than is available in my garden. The only fern that I can grow is bracken, whose name is synechdoche for neglect.

guitars: Almost forty years ago I fell in love with a boy who played guitar. We went to a lot of guitar concerts together: folk, rock, jazz, fusion, classical, Spanish. The one I miss most is Michael Hedges.

near-future sf: I love it. I used to love sf with aliens the most, but now I am better at noticing the zippers on the backs of their costumes so they do not engage me as easily. I love the way that unmarked literature has assimilated so many sf tropes that sometimes the only way you can distinguish between them is by looking at the publisher's name.
