boxofdelightsYesterday I had a morning appointment with the gynecological cancer specialist that I got referred to by the surgeon who was recommending hysterectomy for fibroids. Every time I saw him, he said, "Now, I don't want you to walk out of here thinking I said you have cancer," but when I asked for a second opinion he referred me to a cancer specialist. The first time I saw her, she recommended genetic counseling, since my sister had breast cancer, so I did that. The genetic counselor let me know that my DNA tests were all normal, so yesterday was my follow-up with the gynecological cancer specialist.
I started the car and scraped off all the ice Thursday, so it didn't take too long to scrape again Friday morning. It's a half-hour drive on the highway. The roads were not great but I got there on time. The nurse went through all the usual screening questions and vitals, and told me to get undressed. When the doctor came in, she reiterated that the DNA tests were all normal, and the CT scan showed a largish fibroid on my cervix, and asked if I still preferred to avoid surgery. I said yes, if she thought that was safe. She did. She said if I did need a hysterectomy, it would have to be radical, in order to move my ureters out of the way of the cutting. She referred me for another CT scan in six months, to check on whether the fibroid was growing. She said that there was no need for her to do an exam today, if we weren't planning surgery.
Isn't this the kind of appointment telemedicine is right for?
Anyway, I got back in the car planning to run all the errands that have to wait for a day that I'm in the car. As I got onto the ramp to get back on the highway, my turn signal bar snapped.
The rest of the day I spent napping and trying to get warm enough.
