Just followed you on IG - though my account name doesn't really fit anymore, since a bunch of my daylilies mysteriously died last summer and I don't plan on planting more...

Climate change? I think of daylilies as almost unkillable though I guess that varietals are more demanding. What are you planting these days?

Yes, they are almost unkillable, so I am mystified! I moved them into my backyard a couple years ago because the deer kept eating all the flowers when they were in front. The first year in back they seemed okay, but then most of them didn't come back the second year! These plants were moved from my old house, so they have been transplanted (and neglected) multiple times and they just keep chugging along. My top two hypotheses: voles tunneled under them and destroyed the roots, or they don't get along well with the Italian musk strawberries that I have as a ground cover in that bed.

Anyway, I am replacing any plants that die from here on out with native plants -- I really want to improve the ecosystem value of my yard. I'm only making exceptions for a few edible plants, but even there I'm trying to prioritize natives.
