Do Texas and Mississippi just... hate people? I can't understand their lifting restrictions except as an attempt to get as many people as possible infected before that window closes.

I've been a science fiction fan all my life, and my family of origin was Republican, so I have heard a lot of claims that the world would be a better place if the weak were just eliminated, but I always thought they meant other people.

I dunno man, but I find it really fucking suspicious Abbott did that RIGHT after Biden announced he had gotten the two giant corporations to work together so there will be enough vaccine for every adult in the US by May, and prioritizing teachers. Because now all the emphasis is on MERRKIN FREEDUMZ and the idiots rather than what Biden's actually done, negative not positive.

(Meanwhile a bunch of people with comorbid conditions I know including me are desperate to get vaccinated before the variants start sweeping through because guess what, ALL OF THEM have been found in Houston, Texas, but we don't qualify. Hi ho.)

It seems like the only possible conclusion but I think the idiots have seen the levels dropping and have decided to cash in on that by opening everything up fast the way the Right wants without giving a damn about how this is going to reverse the lowered numbers.

A lot of the people doing this have a very expansive definition of who qualifies as an "other" who is unworthy of protection or life, but it tends to be compressable to "if they don't look like I do, believe exactly what I believe, and have as much or more wealth than I do, they're 'other' and deserve what happens to them."
