Looks like a tiny hummingbird




Hovers like a tiny hummingbird




But it's an insect!

I planted phlox just because I saw hummingbird moths in a garden of phlox a few blocks away. And I've gotten hummingbird moths in my yard too, but they all went for the Asiatic lilies.

I love those guys! I had a snowberry clearwing moth hanging out in my garden all last summer, but none this year.

I understand hummingbirds to be an American-hemisphere only thing, so perhaps those are too? *uses search engine* Ah, they're what we call a bee hawk-moth (and a hummingbird hawk-moth, which I have heard of, is something else again)!
