First time hosting book group at this house:

(I'm not in the picture because I'm taking it. Two more people came later so we were quite close, but I forgot to take another.)

I'm a pesco-vegetarian, and no one else is, so I always make too much food because I'm worried that people won't be satisfied. Everyone ate, and here are my leftovers:

The food looks lovely. Was this the discussion of Braiding Sweetgrass? How did it go?

It was! I thought the discussion went well, for this group. (We have been a group for a long time, and not all of us actually read the book anymore.) Eight people showed up. Seven of them had read at least part of the book, and had a relevant question or comment. One person, who hadn't finished the book, asked whether there were solutions in it; what were we supposed to do? I pointed to the part where Kimmerer says, if she could prescribe one thing for everyone, it would be to start a garden. Think in really concrete terms about what nourishes you, and what you nourish, and you will start to figure out how you and the world can do better at sustaining each other.

Its good book for book groups that don't always read the book because you can read only part of it and still have something to talk about.

And that's really good answer to the solutions question. I wouldn't have know what to say since to me it feels more like a book about one's attitude towards the world the about concrete steps to take.

That is quite a lovely spread it is making me hungry! A book club always sounds like so much fun, I really should see if I can find one in my area.

Thank you! I really like book groups, both the book-only kind hosted by libraries and bookstores, and the book-and-social kind that involve friends-of-friends.

It's always better to have leftovers than run out, I think. And those leftovers look yummy.

Cultural difference: my book groups all sit around in living rooms, not at tables. Huh.

The house next door to me is for sale right now. It has steps up to the front door, but the front yard is long and flat enough for a good ramp. I don't know what it is like inside though.

Thanks! I like several kinds of book groups. This one has gone in the direction of feeding and connecting with each other, to the detriment of discussion of the book.

Yay! The proper amount of food for a party is when after the party, you could immediately host everyone again ;)
