More Joy Day 2018 is this Thursday, Jan 25. I shoveled both my next-door neighbors' sidewalk, right before the mailman got here, which would have been a good More Joy Day deed, but any day can be More Joy Day if you make it so.

I just got progressive lenses. It feels like my glasses are all smudged, all the time. This gets better, right?

Yes, it takes around three weeks for the progressives to become second nature.

Wear ice cleats!

I immediately took to progressives and was all, "Oh, this is what was wrong!" but I guess I'm an outlier. :-)

It took me about 3 weeks. Then when I was forbidden to wear them (vertigo) it took me 3 weeks to adjust to contacts for distance vision + put on reading glasses for computer work and reading. I have one pair that is just for hand-work like sewing on a button or threading a needle.

Things I learned recently: a good optometrist will overcompensate the lowest section of progressive lenses so that the part you use for reading is just right.
I opted for bifocals, and still feel like the world is newly full of smudgy twitchy things.

I never did get used to progressive lenses, and I ended up abandoning them for mostly no glasses at all, with simple reading glasses as necessary. However, I know people at work who love their progressive lenses, so maybe I'm the odd one out. Fingers crossed yours will work out!

You are not alone. I prefer bifocals with a line, or a pair of prescription reading glasses (my eyes are weird).

I like holding my head in odd positions all the time, and you can't really do that with progressives.

Don't give up on progressives if it takes longer than 3 weeks. Some of us are atypical. It took me just over two months, and then one day, I woke up to find that magic had been done overnight and everything was just fine, thank you kindly. It was a long two months, but for me, more than worth it in the end.
