nitpicking The Hour

In episode 3 season 1 of The Hour, McCain, who is giving Freddie a ride home, says, "I don't think it's privilege you dislike, I think it's fear, that in spite of it, you still won't be let in."

When Freddie said that he hated privilege, he was talking to Hector. Was McCain present at that conversation? And, if he wasn't, is this a clue or just a mistake?
