Pick up the nearest book to you.
Turn to page 45.
The first sentence describes your sex life in 2012.

Well, there's two books nearest me, I'll check them both. Delia Sherman's Changeling:
"Didn't she know I could take care of myself?"

Bwahahah! Yep, that works.

The other is Karen Lord's Redemption in Indigo:
"'Mission accomplished.' There was a certain amount of self-satisfaction in this communication."

Okay, I get the message already!

Into my metal holder I slipped the polarized filter and attached the stroboscopic mechanism, on which I had had to make many, many fine adjustments.

Best meme ever. Especially since I am at my desk and the nearest book is Rebecca Solnit's astonishing Savage Dreams: A Journey into the Landscape Wars of the American West.

Solnit: "Later, it became a Romantic taste for a violent, chaotic, overwhelming nature in the face of a relentlessly optimistic, productive, and increasingly industrial society."

Ohhhhkay. Looks about like usual, then.

"No matter how delicious the bread at the corner bakery, there is nothing quite so satisfying as a loaf of homemade bread or a batch of warm, fragrant muffins fresh from the oven."

Umm... maybe there's a double entendre in "warm, fragrant muffin"? *g*

The first full sentence or first full clause? Both are grand:

1. "and close my eyes as if the ordeal has been unspeakable."
2. "A contemptuous bark comes from my bag."

The work next to that one is more bucolic:
"Splendid mix of Autumn Beauty, Lemon Queen, Velvet Queen, Taiyo, Dwarf Sunspot, and Italian White."
