My current dog had intense chewing energy up till the age of two or so... besides giving him allll the cardboard boxes to shred, he also loved yak cheese sticks. They were the only edible chewy that lasted more than a few minutes.
At the august age of six, he does a lot less chewing now, but he still listens for the sound of paperboard boxes hitting the floor by the kitchen door, where they wait for someone to take them to the recycling bin in the breezeway. He sidles up, picks them up gently, and takes them back to his base (the livingroom rug) to be carefully taken apart.
