hormonal birth control

I don't know if it's a special formulation, but there's at least one form of BC that you can stop only four times/year....

It's a different formulation. I'm on Amethia, which is one of the extended cycle ones. Basically you're on a 90 day cycle instead of 30ish days. The last row of pills does contain some estrogen (instead of estrogen and progestin), dunno if that helps with your progesterone fluctuation problem. Extended cycle seems to at least somewhat address my premenstrual anxiety issues, which is what I needed.

All this being said, you *can* just skip the placebo row in a regular pack of BC; my GP recommended that for a couple months while trying to figure out some annoying technical difficulties. I've also heard of docs being fine with one doing it just to skip a period when it would be inconvenient; not sure how recommended it is to do that on a regular basis. But as [personal profile] jinian says there's literature that indicates it's pretty pointless to have all these periods, medically speaking...

They say it, but whatever, I've had Norplant and I wasn't taking that out monthly.

Actually, there's a lot more pushback against off-weeks within the medical community now that people are considering just how few periods fertile women have had over most of evolutionary time. We really don't need all that misery as far as anyone can tell who studies it; people (men!) were just trying to mimic an unusual condition without thinking too hard.

Completely 100% okay to skip withdrawal bleeds and stack, they say, with their [community profile] vaginapagina hat on. More details on request!

Man, it sounds as if you're having a miserable time. :(

I am so very glad of the happiness! And it's odd how often misery and delight go together. Still, sounds like too much yin, and I wish you an easier time with your body.
