hospital, raccoons, bicycle

So I ended up in the hospital with diverticulitis. In the emergency department, about half the people I saw were wearing masks, but in the other parts of the hospital almost no one was. Now everything has a bad aftertaste; I know it must be one of the five medications they sent me home with, there hasn't been enough time for Covid symptoms to start showing up, even if that is still a Covid symptom, but WHY aren't masks required in health care WHY this is WRONG.

In other news I rode a bicycle for the first time in ~forty years
a red Schwinn step-through bicycle
Bike is very heavy, and I still don't have a sense of balance, so first thing I did was get on and fall over, but then we got up again and did some circles, both directions.

and saw three banditos on my deck
a healthy young raccoon sniffing around a cluttered deck
Dutch was very unhappy that I did not let her out to deal with these rascals.

The raccoons did tip and sort through my trash can that first night, but they haven't been back, possibly because I don't put food in the trash. Everything that rots goes into the compost!

Ow! Sorry it was bad enough to go to the ER; glad they let you go home.

Why no masks?! Argh.

Poor Dutch, you did not let her Do Her Job.

Not mandating masks in hospitals is the most self-destructive thing I've seen in my lifetime. Hope you're safe and the meds work.

Boo diverticulitis, yay medical care, boo no masks!! I hope it all heals up quickly.

Yay for biking! Raccoons sound mixed. At my last place a neighbor was feeding them so they were very bold.

I'm by no means the most careful person I know with masking, but I wear one on transit and in medical settings religiously--that's where the germs are, guys! All of them! Not just the new ones! I like not having URIs of any type personally.

I hope you are fully recovered from your ER visit.

I hope the medications will slay the diverticulitis. I just don't understand about the masks. It is an issue locally as well. I keep seeing Twitter threads in which people who work in hospitals or have to go there often say that before the pandemic, masks were routinely required in cancer wards and treatment areas, and places where immunocompromised patients had to go, but now there's no requirement anywhere. The human race is not remotely rational and way too often just perverse.

Oh yeah, the last time we were in the low-cost health care clinic for T's new doc appt, the ONLY person besides us wearing a mask was the receptionist. The nurse said cheerfully "You can always ask for anyone to wear a mask here anytime if you're not comfortable!" and yyyeah, lady, that's sure gonna happen. The doctor did put on a little surgical CLOTH mask when he saw us wearing N95s. Lolsob.

OMG the raccoon!
