Trump says protests shouldn't be allowed, and the National Park Service is proposing a rule that would eliminate protests from anywhere Trump might have to see them, including the National Mall.

The right of the people to peaceably assemble and petition government is so fundamental to the protection of America that American's Founders put it in the First Amendment to the Constitution. It should not be infringed by a President who doesn't care whether he is bad, only whether he looks bad. This proposed rule damages the cultural legacy that the Parks Department claims to be trying to protect. It damages the Constitution. It damages the rights of the American people.

The proposed rule is unconstitutional, and, if it passed, I hope it would be struck down by the courts.

There are a lot of Trump-toadies and believers in the Imperial Presidency making decisions in our government now. I don't think they can be a majority, but maybe the majority are sighing "choose your battles." Let him have the anti-protest rule, which will probably be struck down anyway, and save your obstructionism for his wish to see tanks and missiles paraded through the capital.

Oh, the courts! I suppose most of them are still working. Over here we mostly hear about the bad stuff. (Our courts work, unless you can't afford access. The government just ignores them on occasion.)
